Web AppBuilder not respecting removed service layers in saved AGOL map layers

Hello everyone.  I have several AGOL map layers that were created by paring down larger map services.  When I point Web AppBuilder to a web map containing one of these map layers, the created web app displays all of the layers in the source map service rather than reduced number of layers of the AGOL map layer.  I hope that makes sense.  Am I missing something or is this a shortcoming/designed behavior of Web AppBuilder?  Please note, I am not using the developer version.  Thanks for the help!

I am having the exact same problem, any solution.  It is still showing up in the Layer List Widget

I've contacted ESRI Support about this.  According to a technical lead, Web AppBuilder referencing the map service rather than the AGOL map layer is the expected behavior.  My report was forwarded to the development team to be considered as a future enhancement.  I've also created an entry on the ESRI Ideas page.  Please upvote it here: ArcGIS Idea - Web AppBuilder respect of removed service layers in saved AGOL map layers

I am not sure why anybody would not want them linked since you spend a lot of time making the web map just how you want it.  Does anybody know where we would change this in the code to keep the layer list in sync with the web map?

For anyone interested,  I recently followed up with ESRI support on this and was glad to hear that release 3.9 will address this issue.  This is not the release scheduled for next month (July 2015) but the one following sometime in the fall.
