It would be ideal for dashboards to be able to pull data from a feature service hosted within an ArcGIS Online web mapping application instead of only from web maps. By embedding a web application into a Dashboard, users are able to use the same widgets that they use within the web application alone (such as smart editor). However, it is not as useful as having the web map added into the Dashboard, since the widget filtering that is normally utilized within a web map is not available through a web app.
Alternatively, adding a feature service to a dashboard without adding a web map would have the same effect.
I agree about being able to pull in a web mapping app to the Op's Dashboard app. In the web mapping app I can add widgets such as a splash screen and it would be nice to have the dashboard consume it.
So this is sort of a dead thread but I thought I'd just add a solution here.
As of the current build of the Dashboard editor you can add "Embedded Content".
Paste the link to your webapp and you can have it exosed in a pane in the dashboard.
I've done this with an editing app and it's perfect.
If you stack the content with your map object you will have a mapping tab and an App tab that you can toggle between.
It looks like the opposite is true now too, you can add dashboard content or theme elements to a WebApp. Haven't tried that yet.
Hope that helps anyone who finds this.
