Problems zooming deeper than basmap allows

I have a very detailed mxd I am trying to publish at very large scales.  By detailed I mean treatment plant configuration that shows all the different appurtenances on the piping.  I need to scale down to 1:30 or similar and don't really need more than 1:20,000.  It seems the basemaps provided (Bing/Google) limit my zoom scales at 1:200.  I can't go beyond that.  It is not enough detail for our mapping purposes.

Is there a way around the Bing/Google basemaps because I do have aerial photos I can use if needed.  Or is there something in my Service editor parameters I am missing to set.  When I get to the map caching section within the editor window I can shoose between dynamic and cached but all other parameters are greyed out.  In the advanced cache window the scales shown are not what I would like to use but I cannot modify them or add my larger scales.  Shouldn't the dynamic setting allow me to zoom to a very large or small scale regardless of caching?

thanks in advance,

Doug

Hi Doug,

You might find this post helpful. Note that you would need to create a very simple add-in behavior for it to work. As for basemaps:

  • Only ArcGIS Server Cached (Tiled) map services, Bing Maps, and OpenStreetMap are supported in the Basemap gallery.

  • Dynamic map services are not supported for use as basemaps.

Hope that helps,

Katy,

I need a blank background basemap and cannot get the zoom levels down to a single parcel level, 1" = 50' or so.

I have created a cached basemap and would like the zoom to match that of the Bing road map. My zoom levels in the service are down to 1 to 100. When I add this service as a basemap the maximum zoom is constrained matching the other canned basemaps not the settings I have created in the service.

I don't have the knowledge or tools to create a "behavior" and do not understand the explanations in the help documentation.

Any help would be appreciated.

Andy

All,

Rich Z. from our team created an add-in that you can use for this purpose. See here: http://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=0b2c8fcac5624bdd92f9fef15fdb96ef.

This should have everything you need, but you may need to open the solution in Visual Studio and compile it to get the xap file. Then just upload the add-in (xap file) to your Application Builder.

Hope that helps,
Katy
