Hello,

I'm a GIS student right now, and I'm working on a co-op project for a municipality using ArcGIS Viewer for Flex. Unfortunately, my instructors are not familiar with using Flex and are having trouble helping me out. Can anyone tell me how I can connect my Flex application to a SQL Server database so I can query data? Do I use ArcSDE? Thanks

Nicholas,
No, you do not have to have ArcSDE unless you need multiple databases. You do have to have ArcGIS Server 9 or 10 Standard Edition or better. The server installation process creates a www.root directory under the inetpub directory. Here you create a folder for your flex projects release build. You can have the Flash Builder export the release build straight to this directory or the release build can be copied to the directory.
