I would like to use the ArcGIS Online basemaps which are in Web Mercator projection with an operational dynamic layer from my local server in NAD 83 coords. Is this possible or does all data need to be in the same projection?

Neil,

It is definitely possible as long as you add your ma service as type dynamic (That way ArcGIS Server will re-project your data on the fly).

Hi Robert,

I have the ESRI Imagery as my basemap and The City of Orange Historic District (NAD83) as my operational dynamic layer.

The problem is that the imagery below my historic district is in Saudi Arabia not Orange California. Any thoughts on why this would happen?

Thanks

Neil,

Sounds like you have configured your main config.xml incorrectly. Post your config.xml for review.

These layer types can also be projected on the fly: feature, image, arcims, wms and kml

Did you define the coordinate system in the ArcMap document you pushed your NAD83 service from?

I got it to work. Just needed to set the map extents to my dynamic layer.
I now have another question. Can I have two basemaps that are in different projections?

Sure, as long as you load the "second" one as dynamic (or rather, non-tiled) so it can on the fly it.
