We would like to announce the Flex-A-Widget Challenge, a developer competition for the ArcGIS Viewer for Flex. The challenge: either modify an existing widget or create your own custom widget for the ArcGIS Viewer for Flex application, then submit it as part of the Viewer code gallery.

The widget must work on the ArcGIS Viewer for Flex 2.2 or higher release. You can enter as many widgets as you like for the competition. If you have previously submitted a widget onto the Viewer code gallery, you are welcome to enter them into this competition.

We recommend that you submit the following as part of your widget entry:

  • A compiled version of your widget that works in the ArcGIS Viewer for Flex application

  • The source code for your widget

  • A ReadMe file that explains what the widget does and how to install/configure it

  • An associated sample service available to see it in action (if needed)

The winner of the competition will be decided by public voting.

The Flex-A-Widget Challenge is open to everyone except Esri distributors, Esri employees, or their immediate family (spouse, parents, siblings, and children) and household members of such employee or person. Additional information and rules are available from here.

More detailed information on the rules and widget sumbmissions will be posted shortly.

Good luck and we hope you enter often!!!

Sincerely,
The Esri Flex Development team

Earlier in the thread it says Feb 25 not the 18th.

I was going to suggest that if somebody really wants to create a widget, one on my wish list is some sort of enhanced print widget or CreatePDF widget. The operations dashboard template has a CreatePDF widget but I can't seem to replicate it and don't know who wrote the code. If something like this was available on the Resource Center I would be really happy.

I tried out several of these, all good.  I did have one question though, how are they organized in the code gallery?  The order that they come up in makes no sense to me.  I think that it should be organized by date added or if you use search, then of course the ability to search by relevance would also be helpful.  Switching back and forth would be very beneficial too.

I think that I deleted the email with the vote link, without realizing that was (apparently) the only way for me to access the voting page.  I'm an EDN subscriber and attending the Dev Summit so I definitely qualify to vote.

Any other way to get access to vote other than through the link in the email?  If not, any way to get the email resent?

Seems like it has been made very hard to actually vote....

Hi Josh,

I did have one question though, how are they organized in the code gallery?

That's a good question and I am not 100% sure. The widget organization applies to all the code gallery items for all the Esri Resource Centers. I believe they are sorted by date the item was last modified, but I am checking into this.

Apologies for the late reply, I only just saw your post. Unfortunately, voting for the contest closed this morning at 9 am PST. But since you posted your request before that time, I will make an exception for you. Please send me an email: dlaw@esri.com with your votes and I will submit them for the competition.

Hope this helps,
