Hi everyone,

Anyone ever used wyzant to get extra help for GIS training?

Thoughts? Comments? Good/Bad?

Everything helps!

Thank you, community!

Hey @SuzanneLin

I've not actually heard of Wyzant before, but it looks to be some type of Tutoring service from the looks of it.

In my mind, a Tutor is almost never worth it unless you are going to be jumping from one field to another without any prior experience and you need it fast, because usually spending money helps you learn a bit quicker.

My first question is why you're looking for training? Did you recently jump into a position that needs it? If your companies software is ArcGIS based, then there are thousands of free documents and training videos that you can use to study on and learn from. If you're somewhere that uses an open source platform, then there are documentation videos and forums as well for them! Here are a few of the learning centers for ArcGIS: https://www.esri.com/en-us/arcgis/products/arcgis-pro/resources https://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/latest/get-started/pro-quickstart-tutorials.htm

I went from knowing absolutely nothing, zilch, to being a lead GIS Administrator at my previous company just using these free videos, resources, and the community! With some drive and time you can definitely do all of this for free and have some great knowledge just from a few of the spots I've mentioned.

I know this wasn't really the answer you were looking for, but I had a few bad experiences with tutoring services in my early career, and it has given me a bad taste since then.

Great questions!

My company is looking for a GIS Trainer so it's been so hard to look for someone with Ersi experience. I thought using Wyzant was a good possibility to find someone

As Cody mentioned, ESRI training has great resources - Occasionally, ESRI offers MOOC - Massive Open Online Courses. You-Tube. Coursera was another great place to train and learn additional skills. Arizona Universities, ASU and UofA, have online programs to teach you a great amount. I also took courses with UCDavis using Coursera.
