Tables/single select grid with text or number fields via AGOL

Using the webapp design layout we have added a single select grid format, but ideally would like responders to be able to either free flow number or single line text rather than utilise the pre-set single select format. Is anyone aware of a workaround/solution to this please?

For example: the estimate of build out rates (a number of homes) year on year by the responder rather than pre-populated banded responses [1 to 10, 11 to 30, 31 to 50, etc]

Maybe I am not understanding the question, but it sound like you could just use a series of open entry number questions.  You could also try  a slider questions if you want to add some visible constraints but allow more granular number selection than a range.  

Having a series of questions instead of a single select grid would also allow you to have individual 'guidance hints' should you eventually move it to Connect, from your other question. ( Info button - Esri Community)
