It would be nice to have a button the would generate formatted citation for a StoryMap without having to go to a cite generator website. This could be used in papers and resumes/CVs. Author Last Name, First initial. (Year, Month Date Published). Title of web page. Name of Website. URL
It would be great to have the option to choose from the common citation styles (APA, MLA, Chicago).
Here is an example of a Chrome Extension for a citation generator. ( haven't tested this one.)
Here's an open access journal with a Citation Generator. Find the "Abstract" section and look to the column just to the right. You'll see the Citation Generator.
Thanks @ShanaCrosson2! It looks like the metatags that are already present in the StoryMap web page are getting picked up by that chrome extension you linked to.
Here are a few citations for public stories generated in the APA7 format using that extension:
Tait, A. (2019, May 31). Mapping Mount Everest. ArcGIS StoryMaps; Esri. https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/c87bc0a59c0144008e25d50a5dd1b192
Davison, W. (2023, February 21). Spike Maps. ArcGIS StoryMaps; Esri. https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/805d12a871ff4882bbb51095e0bbe89d
Knoop, P. (2020, June 17). Clone an ArcGIS StoryMap. ArcGIS StoryMaps; Esri. https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/1a8199d7b768471d9af0e7be75d9009e
In-text citations generated for those same stories look like this...
(Tait, 2019)
(Davison, 2023)
(Knoop, 2020)
Thank you @ShanaCrosson2.
This seems to work exactly like I wanted it to. I was only hoping for a button on the StoryMap app itself so tech challenged faculty would not have to install extensions. I'll pass this along to them.
@LisaBenvenuti1 We discussed putting an option for something in a StoryMap that would turn on button for citation generation. This would be author controlled. I agree with you -- for certain StoryMaps, the citation generator would be very convenient for faculty and for students, much more so than a Chrome extension. (I'm sure Safari has something, but I haven't looked.) Some folks will really struggle with an extention vs a button on a StoryMap. Maybe @OwenGeo will keep this under consideration!
