To be clear, this only applies to Story Maps created with the *NEW* Story Maps UI, correct?

This was the question I had as well. I think to add google analytics to old story maps not made with the new builder you would have to do something like Stephen Sylvia outlines in this blog post.

That's correct it only applies to ArcGIS StoryMaps. Thanks for your question.
