Raster Calculator works with a small clipped version of a raster, but when I use the full raster the tool fails

I am trying to run the Raster Calculator tool and incorporate an NLCD raster along with a raster that represents impervious surfaces and building footprints. I tried using a smaller subset of the NLCD that is clipped to a specific community to see if it runs first before doing the entire state and when I use the expression Con(IsNull("bldgs_impervious"),"NLCD_Clip","bldgs_impervious") and it seems to work perfectly fine. But then when I replace the clipped NLCD in the expression with the full NLCD it gives me the following error.

I don't understand why it would work on one and not the other when the only difference is one uses a smaller clipped version of the larger raster. Any solutions?

@MadelineBarth just throwing this one out there, but raster calculator often struggles for me with GRID raster. Maybe try converting to a TIF and then running?
