Does anyone know, or know how to check, which kernel density function estimator the the kernel density tool in Spatial Analyst, uses? Is it quartic? If not, is there a way to make it quartic?

I've seen discussions of old versions using quartic, but couldn't find anything about recent versions.

Thanks for you help.

Check http://forums.esri.com/Thread.asp?c=93&f=995&t=98735.
Might be some answers there.

I had checked there, but they are referring to versions 8.x and 9.x; was curious if anyone knew about 10.1?

Check http://forums.esri.com/Thread.asp?c=93&f=995&t=98735.
Might be some answers there.

Did you read, How Kernel Density Works?

"The kernel function is based on the quadratic kernel function described in Silverman (1986, p. 76, equation 4.5)."
