Apparent Reflectance

I am using the Apparent Reflectance function on a Landsat image from 2010, which I downloaded from EarthExplorer and unzipped using gnuzip and 7-zip.

The Apparent Reflectance function is supposed to automatically pick up values from the metadata in the header of the file - gain, bias, and sun elevation (perhaps wavelength and others).

Unfortunately, it is not picking up these values, and I am unable to find the wavelength or the gain in the metadata for the Landsat data. If I had the values, I could input them manually. (I did find the bias (radiance minimum) and the solar elevation.

Does anyone have any suggestions for 1) identifying why the function isn't picking up the values or 2) finding the values in the metadata file?

Thank you in advance for your advice.

It worked for me with 2013 Landsat 8 images. Did you make sure that the apparent reflectance function was before 'stretching'? Also it does seem to take a while to respond sometimes.

Hi,

I had exactly the same problem with Landsat 5 (R1G product) metadata not being read.

It was partially fixed by applying this Patch: ArcGIS-102-DT-LS8-Patch.msp

Now, I can see the metadata is being read properly.

However, now when I insert the function Apparent Reflectance, I only see two tabs (General and Apparent Reflectance, no "Key Metadata" tab).  Also:

1) only the RADIANCE_MULT variable (from the metadata file) is used as the "Gain Value", the RADIANCE_ADD variable is just ignored

2) The "bias value" is mapped to the RADIANCE_MINIMUM variable (from the metadata file)

Regardless, when I click OK after inserting the function, I get the message:

"The function could not be inserted. The input or output arguments are invalid"

Any advice would be appreciated.
