Hello,

We are using the NetworkAnalysis GP SolveRoute Task...

http://tasks.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/NetworkAnalysis/ESRI_Route_NA/NAServer/Long_Route

... and noticing discrepancies with the time and distance returned between certain cities when compared to Google Maps and Bing Maps. For example if you compare the routes for travelling from McCall, Idaho to Boise, Idaho:

http://tasks.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/NetworkAnalysis/ESRI_Route_NA/NAServer/Long_Route...

You will notice that the route time comes back as:

Total Length: 116.312916818983 Total time: 193.233333333333 Total Drive Time: 193.235630987302

With Google Maps the route comes back a whole hour quicker.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=McCall,+ID&daddr=Boise,+ID&hl=en&geocode=FZ5JrQIdUH...

Is there a setting I am missing?

Cheers,
Blair

Blair,

ArcGIS Online routing service uses different network dataset than Google Maps, i.e. this is about different impedance values on particular network elements. Unfortunately, this is hard for me to say which one is more accurate in this particular case since I do not live in that area.

Network Dataset hosted on ArcGIS Online is provided by Tele Atlas and updated regularly. Google uses its own network based on public TIGER data.

Dmitry
