addUsers method in ArcGIS REST API for public groups

Groups settings are as mentioned above, the group is visible to others and users are allowed to add themselves to the group.

With these permissions, if addUsers REST API method is called with the params mentioned below

params:

• token
• users: logged in user's username

I think this should add the user to the group, but I see the following error. Appreciate any help on this from the community.

when you log into portal using the same username you used to create the token, can you manually add a user to the group using the portal ui?
