When a quick capture project is deleted in AGOL, it doesn't update on the device to be removed and the user can still submit records!

We have an old quick capture project that we don't want users to use anymore.  We have unshared this quick capture project with our field worker group however because people have downloaded the project previously it is still showing up on their devices. The problem is they can also still submit records to that project, even though it has been deleted.  This is not great.  We can unshare the GIS layer that the project submits records to and then an error comes up when they try to submit a record but in our situation we still want the user to have access to that particular GIS layer in other apps.

I would have thought that the project would automatically update and delete the project from the device if it no longer has access to that project.

Note - we have the organisational settings to update automatically so if there are changes to a project it automatically detects this.  It doesn't appear to detect if a project no longer exists for that user.  Our work around this is currently is to reshare the project with our field workers (even though we don't want our fieldworkers to see it) and rename the project that we don't want the users to see with the name SUPERSEDED at the front so it is really clear.  The project name automatically updates.

Is there a better way about this?
