Working with selections in map series pages

Hi there,

I'm creating an export tool that works with a map series. I'm able to create code that exports selections in the attribute table/map of my index layer, but not with the selections I make here:

In the Export Layout pane, I can work with these selections, like so:

However, when I select "SELECTION" for my page_range_type, it seems to default to the selections made in the attribute table/map. Is there a way to work with the selections in the first screenshot using arcpy?
