I am trying to take a .csv table and display the xy coordinates in a feature layer. This has not been a problem in the past.

There are a number of threads on GeoNet regarding this issue

for example https://community.esri.com/message/776919-re-unable-to-display-xy-data-and-make-xy-event-layer-from-...

In short, it has something to do with the data and/or data type in the table.

If you made recent changes to the table and things were working before, then the problem lies with the recent additions.

Search on geonet using 000055 if suggestions there don't help

PS

more cryptic references are in the help files

000055: Cannot create a Query Table for this workspace.—Help | ArcGIS Desktop

you found the solution there then?

I was able to take out some data that was in my xy columns that resulted in it working. When feature layer was created I then received a message and icon to click to repair data's data source. I am unsure of what I am needing to do to correct this issue. All of points are now displayed but I can't access the attribute table it is greyed out.

an event layer needs to be converted to a featureclass in a geodatabase of as a shapefile.  Until that step is completed, it is pretty useless except for display
