Updating Basemaps (for Pro?)

Hello everyone!

I'm not exaclty sure where to post this - I'm working in ArcGIS Pro, but this may also be an Online question.

There may be a quick answer to this question - but I know at one point there was a resources (I think maybe on ArcGIS Online?) where you could report errors for basemaps.

I'm in the process of trying to create a prototype campus map (because we are discontinuing our other service and converting to an ArcGIS based map app) - and since the Open Street Map is in mature support, I'm having a difficulty time finding a basemap that is accurate to fit what we need. For example:

We have a little roundabout parking lot - this lines up with the satellite photography. Here is how it looks in the Open Street Map:

I've added some examples for how it looks in the current basemaps (see attachments) - I know how to update tile/basemap layers in the editor (which I've done before) but there isn't a way in the tile editor to reroute vectors. It's more like Mapbox than an actual editor program.

If anyone knows the link to send in errors for basemaps, feel free to send it my way (I know I've seen it before, but I can't find it now)

But I'm also curious what others have done when they find basemap errors in ArcGIS Pro. As a workaround, I may create some sort of shapefile-basemap layer I can put on top, but then I'll have to create all of the layers custom (ie roads) and I'm trying to make it easy for the people that will eventually take over this project.

Any advise is appreciated!

(feel free to move this post to a different board if I put it in the wrong place!)

@SaraJL I've been doing a bunch of Esri Community Map editing for the city I work for.

Generally, my workflow has been to just overlay our data in ArcPro and see what doesn't match visually. Usually I do this with the Community Basemap. When I first started, buildings/boundaries of all types (parks, education, etc)/points of interest naming didn't match well at all. I ended up doing a bulk submission for these layers since what Esri does is they'll compare what you send in and do a full replace for those layers.

Small edits like a single road issue or naming issue, I use the editor app.

The link to the main ECM program page is this: Community Maps

  • Provide Feedback - this section is what I use to submit small edits
  • Share Data - this section is where I submit bulk data

Hope this helps!

Good morning - there was a similar question asked a few weeks ago that you can reference here - Solved: How do I report a geographic name change for ESRI ... - Esri Community - and request the change on the Esri basemap.
