Is there an ArcGIS Pro tool that selects adjacent polygons with identical attributes?

The selection is a combination of attribute and spatial, so it is tricky.  There are tools that do it, like Dissolve, but I don't want it to dissolve the adjacent polygons after it finds them. I just want them selected.

Can I get half a dissolve tool???

It will be either a coding exercise or a 2 step process.

  1. Dissolve the featureclass based on the attribute that you want adjacent boundaries removed.
    1. run multipart to singlepart tool if you have any multipart geometies
  2. Spatial join the layer in step 1 ( or 1a) to your original input to identify the clusters.

It is too bad there is a tool that does this but can't be stopped at that point.  I can multistep around this. Thanks for the workaround.

Unnecessary Polygon Boundary -tool. Requires Data Reviewer license.

It exists, but nobody seems to know about it and it requires a license.
