I'm using ArcGIS Pro 2.6. I keep getting a failure when I try to use Project Package. Map Package works for me. Any suggestions? Is there something I'm forgetting to do?

Hi Alena,

Can you try using the Package Project geoprocessing tool to see if that works?

Thanks,

Jonah

It still fails.

ERROR 999999: Something unexpected caused the tool to fail. Contact Esri Technical Support (http://esriurl.com/support) to Report a Bug, and refer to the error help for potential solutions or workarounds.
Failed to execute (PackageProject).

I just have a shapefile in the map, just to see if it would work. I've tried to keep it as simple as possible and not include any toolboxes or history.

Hi Alena,

I wasn't able to reproduce a packaging failure with a shapefile in my project at 2.6. I suggest contacting Esri Technical Support for best assistance. They should be able to take a closer look into the issue.

Best,

Jonah

Is there an active join on any of the layers in the Project?

No, there is no active join. I've kept it as simple as possible, just trying to get it to work.

I had been running into the same problem.  Tool is still running now, in fact, but it is well past the point where it has failed over and over again.  Error started out exactly as OP's; I altered Package Project tool parameters little by little until I seemed to make progress.  My solution ended up being to delete all my custom models in the project toolbox.

Project packaging of anything but the simplest project is still an issue at 2.9.2. I have a project with a map series and one custom script tool. It fails with a non-informative error. I've tried copy-pasting all layers and the tool into a new project. It fails all the same.

One thing to try is go into your Geoprocessing History pane (Analysis Tab->far left command) and delete any GP tool errors or all of them if you like.  Then try to run the Project Package GP tool again.  What is the result?

Another item to test, does any of your data come from a network drive?  If so, test by copying the data to a local fGDB, repath the layers to the local geodatabase, save the project and run the Project Package GP tool.  What is the result?

Last item to test is run the Consolidate Project GP tool and then run the Project Package on the newly consolidated *.aprx to see if it works.  Good luck!!!

Hi,

Two years too late, but I just wanted to corroborate and expand on DavidMurray_ODWC 's solution. My problem was also caused by customization, specifically custom scripts in my default toolbox.

I had previously changed the default Toolbox.tbx to a custom toolbox. I fixed the error by adding the standard Toolbox.tbx back to my project and making it the default, then removing my custom toolbox (just to be safe). I then tried packaging same project with my custom toolbox as a secondary, non-default toolbox and it worked fine. I am using 2.9.0.

As a note, this error occurred whether or not I had the "Include Toolboxes" parameter checked.

Best,

Macy
