Pop-Ups Not Showing in ArcGIS for Power BI After Adding Hosted Feature Layer

Hi Esri Community,

I'm using ArcGIS for Power BI and running into an issue with pop-ups not displaying for a hosted feature layer I created.

Here’s what I’ve done:

  • I created a hosted feature layer in ArcGIS Online based on ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) data by ZIP code.

  • I configured pop-ups in the Visualization tab of the feature layer item page (not just in a web map), showing ZIP, Percent ALICE, and ALICE Households.

  • I shared the layer publicly and can see it working as expected in ArcGIS Online.

  • In Power BI, I opened the ArcGIS visual, went to + ArcGIS data → ArcGIS → My Content, and added the hosted layer.

  • The layer appears on the map correctly — but no pop-ups show when I hover over the ZIP codes.

I've confirmed the ZIPs are correctly formatted, and I’ve tried re-adding the layer multiple times. Still no success.

What I’d like help with:

  • Is there a specific setting or step required to enable pop-ups from hosted feature layers in ArcGIS for Power BI?

  • Does the layer need to be added in a different way (e.g., via “Add Reference Layer”) instead of through the ArcGIS data panel?

  • Could this be a limitation or bug with joined data or the hosted layer type?

Thanks in advance for any help or insight — I’m really hoping to connect outreach data with need-based indicators through Power BI and ArcGIS layers.

Hi @BetsyPedraza

You can enable pop-ups in the 'Format Visualizations' tab in Power BI

Please note, it looks like you will need to have some Power BI data displaying on the map to change these settings:
