Hi.

Is it possible to have labels automatically avoid legends and scalebars?

Sadly the only work-around that I know of is to:

  • Create a polygon of the areas where the legend and scale bar will be on the map.
  • Then make the polygon invisible (100% transparency)
  • Go to go to Label Weight Ranking (Map tab > Labeling Group > More > Weights) and add a feature weight to this polygon you created.
  • A weight of 1000 will ensure that no labels are placed over this polygon which is where the legend and scalebar will be.

I see! I couldn't think of anything.

I would like to use this method for drawings that have a fixed scale.

There isn't a default way to do this in ArcGIS Pro currently. There is an idea to add this functionality you can kudo and follow here:https://community.esri.com/t5/arcgis-pro-ideas/assign-layout-graphics-a-label-weight-in-the-map/idi-.... For now, @MervynLotter's workaround is one of the best solutions for this workflow.

thank you. Followed.
I often use one map in multiple layouts at various scales, so I would appreciate it if you could add this as a feature.
