Is there a way to take an item in graphics layer A and move it into graphics layer B?  I realize I could copy/paste the layer and selectively delete what is not needed, but what is not needed is a large number of graphics items.  So the faster way I'm trying to do is move the items I want into a newly created empty graphics layer.  I keep running into this problem when importing mxd files with lots of text.

Hi Keith,

Since individual items within a graphics layer are not accessible in the Contents pane there is no way for them to be dragged from one graphics layer and dropped into another.

Thanks, I'll probably put an idea up for it.

You could Cut the selected graphics, change the target graphics layer, then Paste. However Paste offsets the pasted graphics from the original location. So you'd have to add a couple steps to keep them in the same location.

  1. Select the graphics you wish to move.
  2. Group the selected graphics.
  3. Note the X and Y position of the grouped graphics in the Element pane.

  4. Change the Target layer in the Graphics tab to the desired graphics layer.

  5. Paste.
  6. Set the X and Y position of the pasted graphics group in the Element pane back to the original location.
  7. Ungroup the graphics.

Here's an idea for Paste in Place that you can add Kudos to show your support for another type of paste. If you could paste graphics in place, moving graphics between layers would be quicker operation of cut, change target, paste-in-place.
