Mosaic Image with NITF publishing issues

I typically use geotiff for this but experimented with nitf images to compare.  The nitf images are larger in size for the same area and provide a little more detail. I can load the nitf images into a mosaic dateset, alter the footprints and create overviews.  Everything looks great.  But when I try to publish to ArcGIS Online, the Analyze Mosaic Dataset tells me the reference files are not accessible and that it may not be georeferenced.  The imagery is appearing and is georeferenced.  As a result, I'm not able to publish.

Any idea on what is going on?  Thanks.
