In ArcMap, there's a floating Overview Map that shows you the area of your Data View with an extent rectangle showing where you are zoomed. In ArcGIS Pro, I want an Overview Map to view the extent of zoom in my Layers tab, for example, when I'm editing.
In the ArcGIS Pro help, all I can find is instructions for how to add an extent indicator to a layout, but not a floating overview map like in ArcMap.
Is there a floating Overview Map in ArcGIS Pro that can be used with the Layers tab like in ArcMap?
There isn't. I suppose this would be similar/perhaps related to https://community.esri.com/ideas/10599.
It might be worth posting as its own ArcMap equivalency issue on the ideas site to track alongside the magnifier idea.
Thanks. I wanted to check here first to see if there's another way to do it first.
There is an addin sample that does this - https://github.com/Esri/arcgis-pro-sdk-community-samples/tree/master/Map-Exploration/OverviewMapCont... - but not sure if they have a prebuilt version of these sample addins available (otherwise you would need to build the addin with Visual Studio)
Another option might be to create multiple maps in Pro and link the 2 maps views - Link multiple views—ArcGIS Pro | ArcGIS Desktop
@ChristopherMoore and @KoryKramer Do we have any relief on this need for ArcMap equivalence?
I can, of course, link two map views in Pro but there doesn't appear to be a way to create an extent rectangle in one of those views unless I work within a layout, which isn't needed here. We just need a floating overview map like ArcMap has.
Hi David,
This is related to this Open idea: https://community.esri.com/t5/arcgis-pro-ideas/enhanced-magnifier-window-for-arcgis-pro/idi-p/939326 No immediate update. It does appear that it is in the team's backlog so based on the idea status definitions it should technically be moved to Under Consideration. I can check with them on that, but I understand that doesn't help you immediately.
@KoryKramer, the Overview map is different. It has a different menu selection from the Magnifier and a different purpose. Although, I suppose they're related in the sense that Overview zooms out and Magnifier zooms in.
Do we need to create a separate Idea for this?
Thanks, David. You're correct, I was conflating the two. Thanks for posting the idea.
I created an Idea for this here. Please give it an up-vote.
