Hello everyone,
My name is maria and I´m dealing with a very simple issue but unfortunately cannot find any solution.
First of all, I'm not much of an expert on Arc GIS...
I´m trying to import into a file geodatabase, shapefiles I have built in ArcMap.
For this, I am following the steps I’ve learned in introductory ESRI videos on the issue. Here are the steps I am following: go to the “Insert” tab à the “import map” button à I navigate to the location in my PC where I have the ArcMap files stored.
When I reach this stage, a message appears saying that the folder is empty, and no file appears in there.
I have tried to change the file extensions into ArcMap, ArcGlobe, … but the but the discouraging scenario remains…
I have tried all the files extensions and the folder keeps being shown as empty!
I have looked for more webinars and teaching videos on how to do this and they all refer the same processus I have followed (which does not work with me…).
Can someone help me solving this problem? How can I get access to information I have built before, using ArcMap?
I really appreciate any help.
Thanks!
Maria
Solved! Go to Solution.
Hi Maria - as these are just shapefiles (.shp) you could just drag them straight into a map in ArcGIS Pro. That's the files ending in .shp only.
It would be easier to see them in the Catalog pane and then add them to your map from there (see https://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/latest/get-started/add-data-to-your-project.htm).
Are the .mxd files in that folder?
That is what the import map tool is looking for. Not a file geodatabase or shapefiles.
Hi George!
Thank you for answering me.
I've just checked and, in fact, there are NOT .mxd files in my folders...
However, the files I have there were built with ArcMap. Wouldn't it be supposed to be automatically suitable to be compatible with ArcGIS Pro? ... (as I told I am not very agile using ArcGIS 😞
How can I transform the files I have into .mxd files so that ArcGIS Pro read them?
At this moment I have not ArcMap installed in my computer anymore. Do I need to reinstall it for importing the documents I need into ArcGIS Pro?
Once again, thank you for your help.
Maria
Shapefiles and geodatabases built using ArcMap can just be visible in the Catalog pane.
You're trying to import an ArcMap .mxd document.
Hi AS,
Thank you for your reply!
So, how can I import non .mxd ArcMap files into ArcGIS Pro?
Can you help me on that?
Thank you once again 🙂
Maria
