Hello,

I just created a map package in ArcGIS Pro and it saved to my desktop with a .mpkx extension. I tried to open it in arcmap using the extract package tool but it didnt work. Do you know how I can open this map package in ArcMap?

Thank you

Hi Gabriel,

.mpkx files are not supported in ArcGIS for Desktop Extract Package tool:

Extract Package—Help | ArcGIS for Desktop

To my knowlwdge,  it is not possible to open a .mpkx Map Package created in ArcGIS Pro using ArcGIS for Desktop.

Hi Andy,

Thanks for replying to my post. So if I created a map package in ArcGIS Pro and want to share it. It can only be opened using ArcGIS Pro, right?

Another option to share it is via a Web Feature Layer or Web Map that is published from ArcGIS Pro.

Yes, to the best of my knowledge that is correct.
