I have tried to follow the amazing John Nelson's online suggestions, but keep coming up short.

I download .pitemx files, and have no way seemingly of opening them in ArcGIS Pro. Help ?

I was also having this issue, but then I completed the Pro 2.3.0 software upgrade and was able to open those downloads.

Rianna-

Thank you very much !

I too upgraded to ArcGIS Pro 2.3, and now the files load correctly.

Peace-

Kieran

And just for anybody who still isn't clear on how to do this, here are the explicit instructions:

  1. Make sure you have ArcGIS Pro 2.3 or higher installed
  2. In your web browser, download your Project Package from either ArcGIS Online or your Portal as a file with extension ".pitemx"
  3. Locate the file you downloaded (i.e. 'c:\downloads\some_package.pitemx')
  4. Double-click on the file you downloaded
  5. The package will open up Pro, and extract a bunch of contents into the Pro project

I downloaded an esri vector basemap to a .pitemx format file, double clicked this file, and did see ArcGIS Pro open, but it was blank, and no data opened or displayed.  The map I downloaded came from https://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=fae788aa91e54244b161b59725dcbb2a

I was hoping to try and bring in vector maps into ArcGIS Pro to replace the raster background imagery-I basically need streets and building footprints in a lighter weight package than raster data.

Hi Matthew,

Does it work if you do "Open in ArcGIS Pro" from here:

Rianna,

That link did work, the .pitemx file did open up a map in Pro when I double clicked on it.  How is that different than the map I linked to?  Thanks for the working link!  While I'm at it, have you found a working vector map showing building footprints within the US?

I honestly have no idea...

This one is ok: https://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=f40326b0dea54330ae39584012807126

- When I tried to download it, I had the same issue you did with the OSM layer. I had to add it via "Data from Path"

You can read more about it / download the GeoJSONs by state here: GitHub - microsoft/USBuildingFootprints: Computer generated building footprints for the United State...

If you need it in another form: https://esri.maps.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=bb69f10baf334d4c935a0fb23d758f38
