Help troubleshooting runaway tool

In Arc Pro:

every time I create a new polygon and attempt to calculate the geometry

arc just "works" on it forever.

I have let it run up to 30 minutes once just to see... no avail

the tool running does not cancel and does not allow the program to close.

The only thing I can do to fix this is end the task through task manager and restart the entire arc pro.

Please if you have an idea what might be causing this/possible solution let me know.

Thank you

Sincerely,

Christopher

Is there a need to calculate geometry before you are done creating your shapes?

apologize for the unclearness:

Whenever this happens I have already completed the polygon.

Sorry, I wasn't clear too.  I meant after you saved your edits and stopped editing

ok, you mean can i just create all the shapes that I need to...and then calculate the geometry? No, I need to do this for verification on each before moving on; and there is like 400 or so.

Each time you save and stop edits the Shape field and its associated Shape_Area field gets updated if you are using a featureclass in a gdb..  Not sure what area you are calculating then.  It would be a pain to do that 400 times.

yes, is a bit of a pain, but this is our workflow. The calculated geometry is for acres vs. area.
