Google Photorealistic Vector Data On Trees

Any tips on how to use the Google Photorealistic with vector data to place it under the trees?.  When I added a vector layer to the 2D group (first photo with orange line), the line shows up on the ground and in the trees.  If I move the vector line to the 3D group as shown in the second photo with a predominately red line, it only shows up in the trees.  I tried different elevations and it doesn't change the effect.
