Field Design Through Catalog

Hi Community;   New day, new question. In catalog, I am wishing to use Data Design to add a field to the attribute table for a feature layer. Something I have done many times with this procedure. I have the attribute table for the desired layer called up via the contents pane. But in the catalog pane when expanding everything in the correct gdb for this project, the desired layer is not listed. Now, to investigate this when looking at properties for this layer in the contents pane and looking at the source path file, it is indeed the correct gdb that I am looking at in the catalog pane.

Why does the desired, valid, existing layer in the contents pane not show up in the catalog view of the correct and corresponding gdb?

Thanks again for ideas!   Dave

I appreciate this is obvious, but you've refreshed the folder/GDB in the catalog pane with a right click?
Also may be within a Feature Dataset.  Is it a feature class or some uncommon data type?  If you have any screengrabs that would help.

Hi David;   Took me awhile, but I think I figured it out. If the feature gets renamed for normal organizational purposes in the Contents pane on the left, the layer name does not get changed under properties in the catalog pane on the right. I confirmed this by adding a field under Design to the layer in the catalog pane and lo and behold! the new field appears in the attribute table when accessed through the Contents pane.   To avoid this subsequent confusion, apparently you must rename it to the same rename in both places. Thanks for the input!   Dave
