I have a layer for collecting data in the field.  I like one of the questions to default to the next number in sequence.  Is this possible?  Say we identified nest number 1 already, can I have it default to nest number 2 the next time we collect information?

What application are you using to collect data in the field?  ArcGIS Pro?

If you're using an enterprise geodatabase, you could set this up using Arcade's NextSequenceValue.  See my September 3rd comment on https://community.esri.com/ideas/9482

Thanks for the reply Kory, I'm using ArcPro to create the layer then I would be using Collector while in the field.  I'm not using an enterprise geodatabase, but would it work in a file geodatabase?

Hmmm, I don't think so because even though you can create the database sequence in a file geodatabase (https://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/tool-reference/data-management/create-database-sequence.htm) it isn't possible to publish the feature service that references a file gdb.  Manage registered data stores—ArcGIS Pro | ArcGIS Desktop

What would the benefit of using an enterprise geodatabase over a file geodatabase be?  Do you think it's something I should switch to for data collection?  I work on a variety of conservation projects such as sea turtle nesting and mangrove monitoring and they all collect a lot of different variables and have multiple people doing it.  At the moment we are not using GIS to collect that data, but I'm hoping to switch over to utilizing Collector more in the field.
