Create a map series with multiple linked map frames

Arcgis pro 2.6

Can someone teach me to make this layout in arcgis pro (map series) (attached)?

I think this layout has 6 map frames, one for each day of the week. Somehow the map frames are linked to the ‘map series pages’ command in a way that the scale adapts itself to each one of them.

I would really appreciate the answers to the following questions:

Do I have to create a different map for each map frame?

Do I have different features class for each map?

How do I synchronize the 6 map frames with the map series?

Other than the answer to these doubts I would also appreciate some general feedback or tutorial to this feature.

I already tried following the instructions in this link https://support.esri.com/en/technical-article/000024006  to make two map frames, but it didn’t work (some of the future’s classes of the second map frame were cropped).

I'm not sure if a map series is what you are looking for here. The attached PDF only has one page. A map series is used to create multiple pages with a different map extent on each page. From the example you provided you just need 1 page with multiple maps, each map showing a different extent. Is that correct?

If that is what you need there are 2 available options. You can show the same map 6 times at different extents, or you can create 6 different maps. If the extent is the only thing changing in the maps you can use the same map and just have multiple map frames. If, however, the symbology/layer visibility/data/coordinate system need to be different you'll need new maps for each.

The attached pdf is just an example of one page in about a hundred (I only put one page as an example to not disclose any important information from my competition).

The project has various pages and that’s why I believe it is done using the map series tool, since it would be very hard to do all of it manually. It would be especially hard because in my case the symbology and scale change throughout the map frames.

Does that mean I have to create different maps for each page of the document manually? Isn’t there a tool that allows me to do this process in an easier way?

Ah okay, I see. A map series is based on a single map frame. Other map frames can exist on the page, but only one map frame can drive the map series. The index feature, the feature used as the extent for each map series page, must be selected from a single map. Other maps can be made to update using map frame constraints, but there are limits. If the map frame constraints will allow you to connect the maps in a way that works with one index feature then you can use the map series features in Pro to create what you want. If not, you probably need to use a  Python script to update each map frame and create your map series. Python can extend the maps series far beyond what is available in the map series settings.

The tools/functionality available in the ArcGIS Pro UI will only go so far in helping you create the kind of map series/map book product you describe. It'll help you get started. To avoid a lot of potential manual work I would recommend, and as Aubri suggest, that you look into ArcPy.mp (Python).

Hi @FCC_EnvironmentS_A_ .  Have you had any luck in producing the kind of map book you are looking for with Pro?

We have been using the MapLogic layout manager in ArcMap for years, but they are not adapting their tools to work in ArcGIS Pro, so I am trying to figure out a way to convert out existing ArcMap mapbook projects into Pro, without losing too much functionality.  So far, it's not looking good.

I can get the main map series pages, but things like an inset frame on each page to use as an overall locator will not work.  Key Maps, street listings, and title pages are other issues.

What have you been able to work out??
