The issue persists in AGP 3..3.1 it is a show stopper to work with complex symbology for polyline layers. we are not able to move forward with such behavior. it is noted, the issue faced when using a feature class stored in file geodatabase and enterprise geodatabase.

we tried the steps mentioned in the following ESRI technical support page without success.https://support.esri.com/en-us/knowledge-base/error-requested-operation-could-not-be-completed-00002...

Also, someone mentioned that ESRI categorized this issue as a bug, but we aren't able to find the bug number.

"@ABishop kindly can you head up to the number of the bug mentioned in the URL you inserted in your message?

Here is a link to the BUG report site: https://support.esri.com/en/Search-Results#search?q=arcgis-pro&content-type=Bugs"

thank you,

ER,

I had this a few weeks ago.
Could not figure it out and have not had time to lodge a bug; but did lodge a few Ideas.

All I can say is unless you specifically use 3.3 functionality just revert to 3.2/earlier.

I am having this same issue. Apparently it has cropped up in several ArcPro versions. Sure be nice to get this fixed.

sorry for being late in replying.

I solved this issue by using unique value symbology with auto-generation (list all values) and then changing the symbol for each value separately. that's worked for me.

I can confirm this same behaviout with lines but It's also happening with polygons.  I don't seem to be able to modify or add composite symbols in an existing pre v3.3.1 layer. (anything composed of more than the 2 default symbol layers). The only solution seems to be to add the layer into the map and build new symbology from scratch. When I get the "Requested operation could not be completed" warning, i am not able to same the symbol or layer symbology.

I'm having the same problem with point symbology. I can't apply any complicated/multi-layer symbols from the gallery. Adding a second layer to a basic point symbol and then trying to choose a more complicated symbol from the galley sometimes works. Both the error and that workaround are not consistent.

I have this same problem for a line feature. I have multiple complex line symbols I'm using for a set of trails in a local park, and I need to change some of them symbology wise. Now, I can't change anything and will be time consuming to re create this in a new layer from scratch.

I had the same problem. My work around - The symbol happened to be in a .lyr file originally created in ArcMap. I removed the layer from ArcGIS Pro. I was able to work on the .lyr file in ArcMap to update the symbology and then add it back into my ArcGIS Pro map. It worked, but it took me about two hours to figure it out. If the symbol is not in an old ArcMap file, then you are probably out of luck.

I am experiencing very similar problems. It seems to happen more often on feature classes I have created from DGN files and then stored in a file GDB.
