I’m dealing with a very strange issue in ArcGIS Pro and I’m trying to see if anyone has experienced something similar.

Symptoms:

  • Save/Open dialogs randomly break
  • Output file extensions disappear (CSV, etc.)
  • Browse dialog opens but some panels appear blank/missing
  • Sometimes the dialog works normally, sometimes it doesn’t

Weird behavior:

  • After restarting Windows, sometimes ArcGIS works normally on the first launch
  • After closing and reopening ArcGIS, the issue may return
  • Sometimes launching ArcGIS immediately after restart works, but waiting a few seconds causes the issue to appear

Things I already tested:

  • Reinstalled ArcGIS Pro
  • Deleted ESRI config folders
  • Removed all add-ins
  • Reinstalled Python
  • Tested Windows dialogs outside ArcGIS (they work normally)
  • Tested startup services (suspected NVIDIA at one point, but issue still appears randomly)AAA.jpg

Hello, This sounds similar to the problem I was having whereby ArcPro stalled while opening the project folder window and  I couldn't save ArcPro projects or export and save files (i.e. shapefiles, geodatabases, etc) to any folders. This was the solution given by ESRI and it worked for me. It may be something similar for you.

We believe we have identified the cause of the issues related to the “Save As” functionality observed with the ArcGIS Pro 3.6.3 patch. Certain recent Microsoft Windows updates—specifically KB5083769 and KB5082417, released in April 2026—introduce changes to file handling and SMB-related operations.

These changes can interfere with ArcGIS Pro’s ability to validate or access user‑specified file paths, resulting in false “Network Error” messages, even when there are no actual connectivity or permission issues.

Resolution

Uninstalling the affected Windows updates resolves the issue.

To do so:

  1. Open Settings → Windows Update → Update History
  2. Click Uninstall updates
  3. Locate updates KB5083769 and/or KB5082417
  4. Uninstall the updates
  5. Restart the machine
