ArcGIS Pro 2.6: “Paste” features tool fails,

In the screenshot below, all features of a layer are selected and then the copy tool is performed. However, the “paste” tool to get activated.

What could be the issue here? Is this a bug?

Paste where?

A new map?

Within the existing featureclass?

To a new featureclass?

Were you in an edit session?

Were you trying to copy within the map? (paste becomes active then if you select the map name in the TOC)

like so?

I think it works as designed, just not for what you want to do perhaps.

This is very basic tool and used to be performed easily in ArcMap. All what you wanted to do is to:

  • start editing
  • select features
  • copy
  • paste
  • then you choose to which layer you need to copy the selected features

The paste is not working all the time in Pro

Not applicable

In Pro, the copy/paste commands in the clipboard group also apply to the layers in the contents pane, rather than just features/graphics as they did in ArcMap.

In your first screenshot, even though you have selected all features, the contents pane is active (denoted by the thin blue bar at the top of the pane). Using copy/paste here will copy and paste the selected layers.

To copy/paste/paste special features you need to activate the map (click on the map stub) that you wish to copy the features from, copy, then activate the map you wish to paste the features into if applicable then paste.

To avoid all this confusion, I observed that if the “copy” tool that is available on the right lick will be understood to copy the features but not the layer! All goes decently with it
