ArcGIS 3.6.2 Pro Not Closing

Over the past few weeks/months, I’ve been running into an issue where ArcGIS Pro won’t close when I try to exit. Nothing happens, it can sit there for an hour and nothing. If I click around, my bottom taskbar disappears, leaving a small solid black rectangular box on the screen. The only way I’ve been able to fully close it is through Task Manager. 

Is anyone else experiencing this?

I am running 3.6.2 and am not experiencing this item.  One thing to try is a How To: Perform an ArcGIS pro Soft Reset - this tends to fix some "wonky" behaviors.

Well I thought that resolved the issue but it has not. Still having a hard time getting Pro to close properly and open other projects without having to end task via the Task Manager. The first time after doing the soft reset, it was fine.

Turn on the Diagnostic Monitor—ArcGIS Pro | Documentation in ArcGIS Pro to track what processes, events, logs, etc. that may report what's blocking a clean shutdown.  Other items that may contribute to a "wonky" shutdown are out of date GPU drivers, 3rd party software conflicts (i.e. unsupported Add-Ins).

Unfortunately the Diagnostic Monitor is showing nothing that stands out to me. It also goes blank when trying to close the program and no information seems to be retained. I have no addins / plugins.

YES, but with Pro 3.5.3. I have tried a lot of fixes but to no avail. Copilot blamed the GPU, and all sorts of things. The easy solution is to rename the folders  <user>Appdata\Local\Esri\ArcGISPro and <user>Appdata\roaming\Esri\ArcGISPro and reboot. You lose all your recent list etc but its a small price to pay. There are a lot of other things that may be hanging and remain open that freezes everything including Exit. If you have to use TaskManager its Esri's fault, not you or your data.

Don't wait for things to close. If anything takes longer than a cup of coffee, interrupt the process and find a fix or find a better way.

I uninstalled Pro this week and reinstalled it - now not only is it still not closing properly, it is getting hung up on simple clicks and tasks and the screen goes black. The table property window is also showing on top of every other window and won't close.

I would highly recommend that you contact Esri Support Services as this is not expected behavior.  Those teams should be able to resolve this situation.

Reinstalling is not the solution. It is to do with configuration in your <user>\appdata\local|roaming\Esri\ArcGISPro folders. Try renaming them to force Pro to rebuild them. Other tools may hang Pro such as partly failed web connections, graphics card incompatibility and a host of other settings not cleared with a reinstall.
