ArcGIS Pro 2.9.12; File Geodatabase (and Oracle 18c 10.7.1 EGDB):

I've created a feature-linked annotation FC using the Create Feature Class wizard in Catalog:

Why is the annotation FC shown as SHAPE = Polygon in the attribute table?

I would have expected the SHAPE to be Annotation, not Polygon.

My understanding is that annotation is the text stored within an invisible bounding polygon shape.

"The Fields view lists the fields in the annotation feature class. The following fields are required and can't be deleted:

  • ObjectID
  • Shape—Polygon shape representing the outline of the annotation"
  •  . . .
  • Shape_length
  • Shape_area
