it is maybe straight forward but just a simple UI update but synchronizing thumbnails is necessary.

In the catalog pane the thumbnail before each map indicates us which maps we created or have loaded from ArcGIS Online or Enterprise.

But when we look at the thumbnails from the maps we opened or in the content pane, we cannot see if it is a local map or a webmap. And we have to check the source from the layers to see if it is the local map or webmap.

Add the chain graphic that indicates a web map link that is shown in catalog on the tab for the map when viewing it in ArcPro. This will eliminate confusion if you have both the map document you published from and the consumed web map in the same pro project open that have the same name simply by observing the chain link graphic on the tab beside the name, instead of having to look at the sources.

Apply the same linked-chain icon used in the Catalog pane to the Map panes for web maps.

Current State
In the Catalog pane, maps added from ArcGIS Online/Portal (web maps) are displayed with a small linked-chain symbol on the map icon, distinguishing them from local maps. However, when these web maps are opened in Map panes, their icons lack the linked-chain symbol, making them visually identical to local maps.

Proposed Change
Apply the web map icon with the linked-chain symbol from the Catalog pane to the corresponding Map panes.

Benefits
This change will reduce confusion about the source of maps by providing clear visual indicators for different types of maps within projects.

Add Warning Symbol to Non-Synced Web Map Icons

I like this idea, but am a little bit concerned that it might be confused with the symbol used to indicate "Linked Views" between maps in the same project.  That symbol also uses a chain-link icon, although it's at the lower-left corner of the map's icon instead of lower-right for web maps.

@CarlVon_Stetten1, that's valid. I think I would much prefer these chains to be replaced entirely with (more intuitive) cloud cloud.png or arrow arrow.png symbols.
