Some times the best placement of a scale bar is not horizontal at the top or bottom of a page but vertical on the side. In this case I have to make the dataframe show a defined extent and convert the scale bar to graphics for editing. We should have the option to rotate the bar 90 degrees.

It'd be nice to see this in Pro. I accomplish this by converting a scale bar to graphic then rotating, then hope I don't change the scale.

It would be very handy to be able to have a vertical scale bar that the text would move with. There are 2 workflows (conversion to graphics or adding the text as text boxes) to get around this I am aware of, but it puts the user at a disadvantage if they need to adjust the map scale any time after the scale bar is placed on the layout, because then those workflows would need to be removed and recreated.  I hope someone sees this that can solve the issue once and for all and please know there is a great need for a scale bar to be vertically functional.

I work on the coast of Florida and my entire county is coastline on the east side.  Showing the county beach maps with vertical scale bars is best and makes the most sense. Thank you for your time and efforts.

In ArcGIS Pro 3.3 rotation is supported for scale bar text, allowing you to create vertical scale bars. You can save them to a style to use again and again.
