I often have to put data into a particular Data Model for our clients and then get an error that the string is too long to fit in the field where I've mapped it. This error often occurs after some of the data has been appended! It would be better if the mapping tool either displayed the column width along with the "(Text)" - e.g. (Text- 20) or raised a flag to indicate that the input field is longer than the target field. You could then either proceed or come up with a solution before it does only some of the features.
We could consider updating the warning messaging on the field map to include inadequate field lengths. Not just for the Append tool but this can be an issue on any tool with the field map.
Hello @AlecBost, Thanks for the idea! In ArcGIS Pro 3.5, you will see that the field map will show a warning on a text field when it's length is shorter than the combined length of the source fields.
Hopefully this will help you locate any issues before you run the tool!
