Save sketch after a failed "Reshape Feature" or "Cut Polygon" operation.

I have been frustrated many times by creating a complex or lengthy sketch to reshape a feature or cut a polygon and end up inadvertently snapping to the wrong vertex to complete the sketch or double clicking accidently and ending the sketch too soon only to see the dreaded dialog that says "The Reshape task could not be completed" and my sketch disappears.  Or the same thing for “The Cut Polygon task could not be completed”.

I don’t think it would be too difficult to change those dialogs to ask if you would like to modify the sketch with yes and no buttons.  If you click yes, the sketch is still there and you can modify it to snap to the correct vertex, or continue with the sketch if you double clicked by accident.

YES YES YES, I want this now!
I just went to post the same idea and found yours. I feel your pain! This would be so nice! Great idea!

Thank you for posting your idea and lending your support to this enhancement.  I uploaded a sample tool that demonstrates this functionality for the Cut Polygon tool.  What the tool does is if you attempt to cut a polygon and it fails for whatever reason you recieve the error message and the option to continue your sketch. Currently it only works with one selected polygon and I don't have anything for Reshape Feature, but the source code is out there and I would encourage anyone else out there who is interested to take a stab at enhancing it for these functions to take a stab at it.

Cut Polygon and Save Sketch Tool

Has this moved on at all since 2011.
This would be really useful.
Sample tool link does not work
Appologies if this is a function of 10.1 or 10.2

I can't believe this hasn't been fixed yet. I have probably lost hours of my life to this issue (over the last 10 years).
Also, along this line, it would be very helpful if sketches could be saved.

2014, and I get this problem also (using ArcGis Map 10.1) ? is there a way to avoid this?
One of the most frustrating things about editing in Arc. So much time lost re-doing/trying to fix this problem.
Was about to post this idea as well.  Will try Chris's 'save sketch' tool, but would be great to see this idea implemented.  Put the last vertex in the wrong place and you loose your work.
