Guide to numbered features - only show features in map extent

I have a map that does not show two geographical outliers. However, these features still appear in the Guide to Numbered Features element. I'm not seeing an option to exclude these features off the map, as there is in table frames, but it would be appreciated. Perhaps this whole module should be brought over:
