Currently, when you create a legend in ArcMap, you have limited customization choices. If you want more choices, you have to create the legend, then re-open the legend options to get the full functionality of the legend options. I have NEVER just used the default legend options in a serious map; therefore, every map I make I create the legend, then go right back into legend properties and fix the legend.
When I was new with the software, I didn't mind because I "fixed" my legends up one peice at a time; however, now I know exactly all the options I want and how they will come out. It would be nice to be able to select my options and have a finished legend in one fell swoop; afterall, time is money!
