Extending the functionality of ArcGIS to include basic/common tasks such as managing photography was definitly overdue but is now thankfully part of the core application.

Unfortunately, the use of the attachments functionality within these tools is limited to the licensing scheme for attachments (not available with a basic (arcview) license).

As the COTS photo toolset does not allow for storing the images as raster attributes, nor can Basic license (ArcView) users leverage attachments, they are forced to continue using file based hyperlinks for managing photography.

ESRI should extend the Attachments functionality to the basic license level.

Just one question about storing photos as attachments for ESRI software.  These attachments are stored in BLOB fields that are designed to work solely in ESRI software.  Do you have the need to access these photos in other software applications?  This was a dilemma that I was faced with for storing photos in BLOB fields which is done with ESRI attachments.  In order to access these photos in other applications, custom programming would be needed to access the photos.  The photos were transferred to a file based system where they can be accessed by multiple software applications with no custom programming (It was a better enterprise solution).
