Esri Places API

Maybe this exists already, if so I don't know about it so please point me to it, but I would love to see the Esri Community Maps program take all of that crowd sourced data they're getting for free from awesome contributors, merge it with some of their Place data from HERE and other providers and give us a legit Places API which is an alternative to the Google Places API.

The ArcGIS World Geocoding Service already provides results for many Addresses, Points of Interest and businesses all combined into a single service.  No need for an additional service with just Places.  If all you need is places, you can use category filtering to restrict geocoding to only the desired locations for your application.  This can be done with a Locator (view) or more fine grained with the REST API.
