Add the ability to change the x,y, z unit display for the 3D profile graph within the 3D Analyst toolbar.

Hi,
I’m glad you posted this.  I think it’s a great idea.

Currently the x,y unit values for the Profile Graph in the 3D Analyst toolbar are controlled by the general map units of the data frame and the z units for the graph are derived from the elevation layer.

The current method for changing these units within the profile graph:

To change the z value for the 3D profile you will need to change the unit of value in the elevation dataset.  You may use Raster Calculator or the Times tools in Spatial Analyst to convert the raster cell values.

If you want to change the x,y unit value this can be done in the Data Frame properties under Coordinate System tab. Highlight the Data Frame Coordinate System and then click on the "Modify" button. (In 10.1 you right click on the highlighted coordinate system then click "Copy and Modify") Then you can change the linear unit of the data frame projection to the desired unit of measurement. The Modify option is not permanent and will just impact the set data frame coordinate system unit.  It doesn't alter the coordinate systems of the source data in the data frame.
