ArcGIS Pro 2.9.5; ArcGIS Online data:
As a new ArcGIS Online user, it seems like the Catalog Pane > Portal tab contains more an just Portal data. It contains ArcGIS Online data too.
Is there a reason why that tab is named "Portal" and not something more accurate/intuitive like "Portal & ArcGIS Online"?
Feel free to let me know if I've misunderstood something.
My assumption is that it's because AGOL is a specific Portal.
In everyday use, we in my organization do use "Portal" to differentiate between AGOL and Enterprise, but the fact is that both of them are portals.
I think you may be able to make the argument for "ArcGIS Online and Enterprise", but that's pretty wordy.
@Bud This is how "The Cloud" came about. It went from "On the Server" to "On Their Server" to the "It's a Virtual Server" to "Hosted Services On-prem & Off-site" to "In the Data Centre" to "It's in the data centre on our co-located server as well as a hosted server, but with identity manag...... ITS IN THE CLOUD".
Don't go back to the beginning. Just think A Portal, and it may be yours, it may be theirs..🤣
