Cartographic labeling

I am taking the Cartography. MOOC cartography mooc, and the instructors talk about avoiding the placement of labels center right or center left. I notice in the Placement Properties dialog that is not one of the options. That should be an easy fix, and you could set up any corner as 1 with the other corners as 2s.

Another thing that was mentioned in the MOOC forums is that if northeast, southeast, northwest and southwest are the preferred positions, why aren't the default zones set up that way?
